Project overview
The new station has been transformed with additional platforms for more trains, building a new concourse and creating an enhanced station for passengers in the fourth busiest station in the country. The project was funded by the Thameslink programme – a £6bn Government investment in rail. The redevelopment works were carried out by Costain and Hyder / WSP on behalf of Network Rail, with the precast platforms being supplied by Charcon Specialist Products.
Our Solution
Using Tekla Structures and working at BIM Level 2, our Civil and Structural Engineering team produced engineering designs, drawings and schedules for over 4,000 precast concrete elements of platform structure. All models were created in 3D and automatically transferred into 2D deliverables for our client.
Our team also provided information for the prototype area of the project which was used to enable assessment of the constructability, maintenance and coordination of drainage and electrical services to the platforms.
This project was delivered at BIM Level 2. We used the latest available software to share models in multiple formats with the main contractor and client. The software was also used to track progress and provide high-level unit details to ensure manufacturing of the precast elements was kept on schedule.
