Client Brief

Waldeck worked together with Peel Ports Groups to support ambitious plans in the Isle of Sheppey, this project was worth £27million and ran over a period of nearly four years.

Scope of Services

Waldeck were appointed by Peel Ports to provide civil and structural engineering.

Achievements

The Sheerness Port Masterplan was drawn up in 2014, which set out Peel Port’s 20 year growth plan for the port. One of the five key opportunities was the redevelopment a 20ha redundant steelworks which was separated from the port by the A249 road. It was the intention to provide accommodation for various uses, including automotive parking and servicing, covered warehousing and open storage for general ports’ use, and also to use the site to re-establish rail freight connectivity to the port.

Our Results

Working alongside the Port Director and his team of operational leads, Waldeck developed the master plan for the site. Early input included concept design, cost benefit analysis, logistics planning and production of 3D visual presentation material to support the CAPEX application.

The master plan included a phased strategy for remediation of the site, modifications to the existing buildings and construction of open storage and infrastructure, including a bridge link to the existing port, and future provision for a rail terminal on the site.
