Yesterday the world celebrated International Women’s Day (IWD) 2020 and it’s theme; #EachforEqual.

The IWD campaign focuses on the idea that individually, we’re all responsible for our own thoughts and actions – all day, every day. We can actively choose to challenge stereotypes, fight bias, broaden perceptions, improve situations and celebrate women’s achievements.

Collectively, each one of us can help create a gender equal world.

We hear from Managing Director, Sue Wright about why Waldeck supports #EachforEqual and how a diverse workforce drives a better working world:

“International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women – while also marking a call to action for accelerating gender equality.

“Gender quality, and celebration across all diversities is essential for economies and communities to thrive, as well as businesses.

“At Waldeck, equality has always been important when considering aspects of the business such as recruitment, training and career progression, in order to create an inclusive, empowering environment for all. Our latest staff survey results showed that 98% of staff believe that Waldeck values diversity in the workplace, which is a figure we are incredibly proud of.

“Over the years, across the industry we have seen stereotypes being challenged and a diverse representation of women is definitely becoming more evident. At Waldeck we are proud to have an above average representation of women within our organisation, in roles across Senior Management, Project Delivery and Support Services, to the point where I believe as a business we would consider diversity not only in gender but also ethnicity, race, age, religion, disability etc. as ‘the norm’.

“That said, there is still a continuing need worldwide for more progressive mind-sets and inclusive behaviours, which we hope to be able to continue to support through our internal programmes such as apprenticeship schemes, graduate training, professional development reviews, flexible working and other internal initiatives.”
